In May of 2017, Sabrina’s mom went to her doctor with a headache and was diagnosed with 6 brain aneurisms.
She was given a 3-5% chance of survival. Her mom refused to accept defeat and kept a positive mindset throughout. After 6 months and 3 failed procedures, the clouds aligned and the 4th attempt was a success.
Her mom was going to be okay, and she started Softwear the next day.
Sabrina searched everywhere for something timeless. Something comfortable. High quality, yet affordable, but not at the expense of the environment or basic human rights. She quickly realized it was a tall order! So she decided to make it herself.
She then found a family-owned mill that responsibly produced specialty fabrics in California and she immediately knew it was game on!
Soon after, she discovered their manufacturing facility—a subway ride from their office and, coincidentally, one of the most advanced sustainably operated facilities in the entire country, right there in Brooklyn NY.
Using sustainable materials and non-toxic dyes, she was able to create something soft, simple, and spectacular in its subtlety. A new fabric that never pills, fades, sheds or shrinks and truly filled a void in the market.
With her signature fabric perfected, it was time to make sure the cut was flawless.
Again, it wasn't as easy as she thought. An unprecedented fabric called for unprecedented design—and dozens of fittings, alterations, and restarts to ensure each piece fit exactly to her specifications.
The result was the softest, most comfortable clothing she had ever experienced—cleanly designed, made for living, and sustainably produced from thought to thread, in Brooklyn, NY.
She called it Softwear. You'll know why as soon as you get into one of these uber comfy pieces ✨
